U.S. Veteran

Leonard V. Miller, age 72, of Carthage, MO passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 after a lengthy illness.

Leonard was born June 9, 1940 in Webb City, MO the son of Howard and Dora Scantlin Miller. Leonard served in the U.S. Army and later served in the U.S. Air Force Air National Guard where he retired as a MSGT. He had also worked for Cessna and Boeing Aircraft Companies in Wichita, Kansas as a machinist. He was also a pilot and flight instructor and enjoyed flying. Leonard was a member of the machinist’s union, Webb City American Legion Post #322, Carthage Amateur Radio Club, and the Heartland Community Band.

Leonard married Deanna Sargent December 7, 1958 in Purcell, MO and she survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Vic Miller and wife Charlotte, Carthage, Harvey Miller and wife Dianne, Wellington, KS, and Kevin Miller and wife Jeanne, Carolina Beach, North Carolina, one brother, Gary Miller, Neck City, MO, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Jessie Ann.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Hedge-Lewis Chapel with Pastor John Clayton officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Friends Cemetery in Purcell. The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Sunday at the Hedge-Lewis Chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City, MO.
