Nellie Marcella Long, age 90, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 11:20 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 at her home. Marcella was born April 24, 1921 in Cassville, Mo. and had lived in the Joplin area most of her life. She was a Housewife and enjoyed raising her family. Marcella was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

Marcella married Jesse M. Long February 26, 1945 in Columbus, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1994. She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Diana Burkhart and husband Neal, Joplin, two sons, Clarence Long and wife Deborah, and Rodney Long and wife Leighann, all of Joplin, two sisters, Colleen Henson, Ridgley, Mo., and Doogie Harvey, Cassville, Mo., four grandchildren, Lance Long and wife Robyn, Angela Fry and husband Rick, Neely Burkhart, and Rachel Sill and husband James, three great grandchildren, Sydney Long, and Calvin and Jacob Fry, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to Marcella’s caregiver, Lisa Sedivy, and Mercy Hospice for their loving care.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Randy L. Wilson, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow at the Hornet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Memorial contributions are requested to Mercy Hospice in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
